Prospects for the oil and gas potential of deep-seated sediments of Azerbaijan (a case study of the mud volcanoes)
Abstract
Azerbaijan is one of the regions in the world with the highest concentration of mud volcanoes; every year, three to five onshore and offshore volcanoes erupt here. Among the rocks of varying ages brought to the surface during these eruptions, oil-saturated rocks are encountered, and the organic matter within them is of particular interest. This article facilitates a geological and geochemical study of the organic matter in these rocks-specifically regarding their relationship to oil and gas potential-and allows for insights into the conditions of their formation and evolution.
