Abstract

In recent years, neutron methods play an active role to decision diverse problems in geology, related mainly to the determination of the content of various elements in rocks. Knowledge of the elemental composition of rocks lets simple information about their origin. For this target at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR), studies have been conducted to determine the distribution of major and trace elements in geological samples, which were collected at the southeast end of the Greater Caucasus. Quantitative determination of the content of elements in the studied rocks, was performed with helping neutron activation analysis utilize the research reactor IBR-2 in the Frank Laboratory of Neutron Physics. The obtained experimental data were compared with the corresponding values of the Upper Continental Crust (UC), Post-Archean Australian Shale (PAAS) and North American Shale Composite (NASC). It was created different diagrams and graphs, which made it possible to obtain information in which geological environment the studied rocks were formed.
